I’ve seen a few posts on the Career Leader UK FB group from people thinking of going self employed. It would be useful for some of us that have been on this journey to run an event and share our stories/advice?

Supervision

Hello! Starting this week, all advisors working for The Careers People are having termly supervision. I wondered if anyone else does this to improve their practice and, if so, are there any non case specific topics or questions that you’ve taken to supervision that have been really useful? Thank you

Amazing! I am starting a reflection log so I have "stuff" to take my sessions. I think I shared it with you? Let me know if not - I made it on the day of the Careers in Careers festival so back in Oct x

"Familiar and Trusted"

I am not actively working in schools as an Advisor due to being on maternity leave. I am returning to face to face work in September in a new area with a new school.

I have just read the following in the CEC's "What good looks like" for Gatsby Benchmark 8;

Research shows that students benefit from conversations with familiar and trusted adults who can challenge and support them

For those of you currently working as a self employed advisor in a school, how do you embed yourself as a familiar and trusted adult for the students you're suppporting?

Thank you 🙂

I work for a Company and go into a number of schools around Warwickshire and I have created a voiceover presentation with my picture on, so the students know what to expect, to be shown in Tutor time. In SEND Schools, they give an appointment slip with my picture and a brief description of what will happen in the meeting. Like Liz said, the more you go in, the students will acknowledge you and smile and say "hi" :)
